By Maaike Addicks, MD

Course Details

Course Details

Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) are crucial in the customer engagement process.

While MSLs are valued for their superior scientific understanding, they need business acumen to have maximum impact.

The accomplished MSL not only comprehends the broader scope of the business but also understands the key factors that influence external stakeholders and how to enhance their experience.

Moreover, they possess the skill to prioritise tactical initiatives and develop plans that seamlessly align with strategic objectives, thereby adding substantial value to the organisation.

Participation in this course will give you the confidence and skills to elevate your MSL role to the next level.

By participating, you will not only have the chance to ask your specific questions to a true expert, but also experience the unique opportunity to share experiences and engage in in-depth discussions with your international MSL and Medical Advisor peers.

  1. How MSLs can add the greatest value for external and internal stakeholders.

  2. Understanding the Medical Plan: analytical tools, critical elements, alignment with other plans.

  3. How to identify Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), structure a KOL plan, and build relationships based on mutual benefits.

  4. The Critical Success Factors for a tactical plan and how to prioritise activities.

  5. How to optimally plan and implement MSL tactics: Advisory Boards, scientific interchange, CME, etc.

VAT Information

The prices on our website are excluding VAT. Depending on the format of the course (face-to-face in Brussels or live online or self-study programme) and your location, we are obliged by Belgian law to apply VAT.

We are obliged by Belgian law to apply VAT in the following cases:

Face-to-Face public course organised in Belgium

Article 53 of the European Union VAT Directive 2006/112 states that : “The place of supply of services in respect of admission to cultural, artistic, sporting, scientific, educational, entertainment or similar events, such as fairs and exhibitions, and of ancillary services related to the admission, supplied to a taxable person, shall be the place where those events actually take place.”
If the course that you register for takes place in Belgium, we are obliged to charge 21% Belgian VAT.
However, you can recover this Belgian VAT through the refund procedure. Note that this procedure differs depending on the country where you are located. It is best to contact your local VAT administration for this.

Online Public courses -  live webinar

Webinars where the participants can communicate among themselves or ask questions to the speaker(s) (be it verbally, via a chat function or similar), are considered as ‘online interactive webinars’ by the Belgian VAT administration.
According to Article 53 of the European Union VAT Directive 2006/112, these online interactive webinars take place where the organisation of the seminar takes place, which in this case is Belgium.
So, if you register for one of our live online courses (organised from our offices in Belgium), we are obliged to charge 21% Belgian VAT.
However, you can recover this Belgian VAT through the refund procedure. Note that this procedure differs depending on the country where you are located. It is best to contact your local VAT administration for this.

Self-Study Programme:

A self-study programme is a service provided electronically. It is the period of self-study that is the most important in our self-study Basics of Health Economics and not the kickoff and closing webinars. As a result, this self-study program follows a different VAT application and the place of the service is where the customer is established. Therefore, we follow the VAT rules applicable to the country of your invoicing address.

Great course with high quality content, a lot of practical tips and very to-the-point topics. There was very good interaction and learning from the other participants. Top marks to Maaike for her expertise and top marks to CELforPharma for their excellent service before and during the course.

Janssen

Michiel Vanmeert, Medical Science Liaison Pulmonary Hypertension BeLux - Belgium - November 2021

I would recommend this course for all MSLs to attend at least once as it gives a nice summary of the basics that you can fall back on later in your job role. Maaike left plenty of room for questions and discussions. The group consisted of multiple companies and career roles with multiple ways of thinking, which was nice as we got to learn from each other as well as the trainer.

Janssen-Cilag

Bob Sukel, Medical Science Liaison Oncology - The Netherlands - October 2021

I really enjoyed this training, thank you CELforPharma. It had a great mix of theory, tips and tools for planning. I now understand better how to measure the impact of an MSL. Not only did I get some great ideas from the trainer Maaike but also from the other participants during some really nice interactions and group exercises.

Medela

Birgit Müller, Global Medical Affairs Manager - Switzerland - October 2021

If you want to know how to get more out of your MSL job role, this course is for you. Very useful information and a complete overview of where you can make the difference as MSL in your company. Thank you Maaike and CELforPharma for this great training.

Lundbeck

Kathleen Mafranckx, Medical Science Liaison Manager - Belgium - October 2021

As a recent graduate and new MSL, this training was an absolute must. The chosen topics were very relevant to my daily practice. The personal experiences and examples, but also the offered templates and other learning materials were very useful tools to get started. After this training, I feel much more confident to improve and expand my MSL activities myself and I am very motivated to work with the acquired knowledge and insights.

AREGA Pharma

Ine Peetroons, Medical Advisor - Belgium - June 2021

I liked Maaike’s stepwise approach to this course and found it very practical. We were given lots of useful tools to become a more strategic MSL. I enjoyed the nice discussion and interaction with the group. Thanks Maaike, thanks CELforPharma.

Lundbeck

Johanna Zeevat, MSL - The Netherlands - June 2021

The course gives a very good overview of the activities of an MSL and their impact on the company and physicians. It is especially suitable for MSLs with little experience.

Novartis

Manuela Felder, MSc, MSL - Switzerland - June 2021

This course was a good chance to get a clear overview on all aspects of being an MSL and how to improve your daily work and increase success. The discussions within the group were great and very helpful. Maaike did a wonderful job at presenting the course and the CELforPharma coordinator did an excellent job at supporting Maaike and the group, thanks to you both!
