Basics of Health Economics
With Prof. Dr Lieven Annemans
Course Details
THE CONTENT
Health economic evaluations play a central role in today’s access and reimbursement decisions. Payers need clear evidence on value for money, and pharma teams must understand the concepts behind this evidence to communicate effectively and make informed decisions.
This course provides a practical introduction to the essential elements of health economic evaluations. You will learn the basics of QALYs, utility measurement, ICERs, cost categories, and value-for-money assessments, with simple examples showing how they are calculated and how payers use them.
You will also gain an understanding of the main modelling approaches used in health economics — decision trees and Markov models — including how they work and when they are used.
In addition, the course covers key debates in the field, such as the limitations of QALYs, differences in ICER thresholds between countries, and the growing importance of budget impact.
If you want to gain confidence in interpreting, questioning, and communicating health economic evidence, this course is a must-attend!
